Reclaiming the Back Yard Above: holy cow, what a task it was to get this porch in shape. It's all of wood, with sliding 12-paned windows as big as garage doors. There were rats nests under the first floor, rotting joists, rotting floors. See "Porch" for more. Below: The backyard was riddled with rat holes. We couldn't get rid of the rats until we had a brick wall built between us and the ratty neighbor's yard. It took us five years to save enough money to build that wall. Work started in 2005.  |
